Orange Springs is one of several cities in Marion County Florida where 4+/- Acres and a home will be offered at Real Estate Auction on May 16th at 2pm. Land in this area including cities and towns in Marion County Florida were at one time occupied by the Seminole and Timucua Indians. Known as a semi-agricultural people who grew corn, squash and beans as well as gathering indigenous plants in villages and cities in Marion County FL. Game and fish are still plentiful in Orange Springs & Marion County’s lakes, rivers and property today. In 1827, Fort King (located in Ocala; a city in Marion County) was constructed as a buffer between the Seminole and whites settling in the area. It sat at the nexus of a network of military roads for cities in Marion County Fla. From the fort one could easily travel to Fort Brooks (near Orange Springs), Fort McCoy, a fort at the St. Johns River which became Astor, Palatka, Jacksonville and Fort Brooke (on Tampa Bay) just to name a few. Fort King was the distribution point in Central Florida from which all settlers gathered supplies and received mail. Many other forts sprang up in the area eventually becoming Florida townships and cities in Marion County.
